Baptism / Christening Venue: EDSA Shrine

Nalalapit na ang birthday/binyag ng anak namin so I already began searching for a Baptism / Christening venue. Konting kembot na lang malapit na ang first birthday ni Jaze and we decided to get her baptized on the same day because it seemed practical to do it that way. Bale, one big celebration na lang for the two occasions. Initially, we wanted to get her baptized sa “Shrine of Jesus the Way, the Truth and the Life” na malapit sa SM Mall of Asia kasi aside from yun yung place kung san kami nag-first mass together ni hubby, malapit din yun sa mga kainan sa mall so convenient sana kaso we moved to Pasig na kaya malayo na yung place from home.

I searched online for churches/chapel near Pasig and pinag-isipan ko din kung ano yung malapit and madali for the godparents since I know most of them will commute lang. I saw an article about Shrine of Mary, Queen of Peace (Our Lady of EDSA) aka “EDSA Shrine” as a place for baptism so I checked it out. Malapit lang from home and very accessible din sa magcocommute. I called their office and confirmed that Jaze’s date has an available slot pa so Hubby officially reserved the date and time that weekend – he just brought the original copy (for certification purposes) and photocopy of Jaze’s birth certificate & our marriage certificate. He also chose the schedule for the required seminar before the date of christening. Baptismal fee is donation lang. This is great na compared to other churches na may fee like the one near SM MOA na Php 2,500 and additional Php 100 per godparent.

I have yet to find a place for the reception of Jaze’s big day. I am open to suggestions right now but of course we are continuously looking pa din ;) I hope this helps parents who are planning their baby’s christening/baptism kahit papano – lalo na yung mga taga-Pasig or Mandaluyong.

***UPDATE***

February 12, 2018

We attended the Baptism Seminar as scheduled. They start on time so do your best to get there before 8:00 am. The seminar was held at Silid Assisi. If you are facing the statue of Our Lady of Peace, you’ll find it on the right side.

Front facade of Edsa Shrine.

This handout was given:

The lecture took about 4 hours (with a 10-minute break) and was about Catechism and the Seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church. Topics also include the requirements and the do’s & don’ts during baptism. We were told of Church etiquette and the appropriate Church attire (NO round neck shirts for men, jeans, sleeveless, backless, see-through, and that dresses/skirts should be at least 3″ below the knee). Baby’s attire should be “all white”. Any fabric will do as long as it is all white.

As for the monetary donation, you may give generously as you want to the EDSA Shrine’s office on or before the day of baptism but they suggested “before” baptism para hindi hassle on the day itself. You can donate any amount and do so without a grudging heart. 😊

One of the lecturers, Tito Larry, gave free rosaries (one per baby) and he said that we can bring it on the day of christening so the priest can bless it.

Hubby and I were in high spirits after the seminar. We are very excited and are looking forward to our first born baby’s Baptism day. I’ll get this post updated ulit once I have the photos after ng binyag.
